“Part of my hope by raising expectations and having more aggressive goals, and just kind of turning up the heat a little bit, is that I think some of you might decide that this place isn't for you, and that self-selection is OK with me," he said. "If I had to bet, I'd say that this might be one of the worst downturns that we've seen in recent history," Zuckerberg told workers in a weekly employee Q&A session, audio of which was heard by Reuters. How's the sentiment among Meta employees on Zuck's statement? Edit: Sauce: https://www.reuters.com/technology/exclusive-meta-girds-fierce-headwinds-slower-growth-second-half-memo-2022-06-30/
Great! 👋 bye low performers, you know who you are. Stealing credit, renaming projects to make it look different. 🪦
Well he might be blunt but Meta did hire a lot, they need to remove the weed if they want to control the bleeding cash
Zuck should maybe take some responsibility for ignoring TikTok trends and iOS changes and putting all the money on a metaverse concept nobody understands instead of blaming some slackers. Slacking employees aren’t responsible for 500b market value disappearing We have slackers like any big company but this is like saying Netflix tanked because they spent too much on employee perks
Yeah I don’t see the metaverse solving any problems for meta. It’s a cool idea but it’s just a distraction to serving up them eyeballs. Put oculus on PIP. This isn’t the time for fun novelty projects.
These rich dudes should learn basic humble behavior. Elon made similar comments. If you want to fire, fire but don’t label the people. Just call it lay off and move on.
Wow. That’s terrible leadership on the communication front. Was slightly considering joining Meta but definitely not now.
He couldn’t be more transparent in testing times, agree with what he said. May be this pace isn’t for you and that’s OK! 😊
This is great that he was blunt. I know I ll have to work my ass off
This is fantastic news. They lowered the bar during Covid and now the bar is going back to pre Covid levels. Many people became complacent and started slacking, and now they’re expected to perform at their level. Will never understand people who want CEO’s who just sugarcoat everything rather than one who is blunt and straightforward with expectations. What other company has weekly meetings with the CEO?
He didn't sugarcoat his stance. Pretty similar to Elon Musk's style, would you agree?
In terms of not sugarcoating, sure, that is definitely a good thing. But not even remotely the same as Elon Musk who randomly lays off employees and is completely out of touch with reality. Would never work for that monster.
What the news article didn’t say was the amount of silly questions our Q&As had been seeing. “Give us this, give us that, …” were the type of questions going in for months. He said that market is not really that good, and the other things about employee performance that’s in the news. It was a nice reaction from Zuck to remind such folks that Meta will not do anything for them. Work towards the results/goals and you’ll be rewarded accordingly.
If it's not business critical info, could you share what perks employees are asking for? Can't imagine Meta not already having something. You guys get laundry done at work. 😄
Laundry / Haircut / food takeout all got canceled in recent months though. We have free food to eat in office itself. People were asking for extra compensation for stock drop, better swag, and things like Google did this, Apple did that, would Meta do this for us? It was answered every time but these questions kept surfacing again and again.
If you can’t perform, leave. Meta is not for slackers and free riders. Go Msft
Google should follow instead of lowballing
Is this fake news or legit?
Thanks OP, Reuters is legit
Zuck is on fire. Good riddance
How long before Dara and Nikki straight copy?
Wish Sundar was this ruthless. If Mark thinks meta is bloated, Google is 10x worse.
