I only have anecdotal evidence. Me: Offers from LinkedIn, Facebook. Rejected by Airbnb Friend : offer from Facebook, 2 tier1 unicorns In both these cases Airbnb is our only rejection. (We applied very selectively). In both our cases the recruiter said design interviews did not go as well as they expected from a hire candidate. But I thought I nailed the design interview. When I talk about Airbnb rejection to my friends they casually mention that they don't hire Indians. TC : 320k. promoted to l5 last half Still debating where to join. Note: I know that I'm making a huge accusation. And as I said I only have anecdotal evidence. Whether this is true or not, the perception exists. We can either resist discussing this and stay politically correct or 'prove' that my accusation is false. Ego bruising: This is partially true. But not so hurting given that I work for Google and have offers from 2 other amazing companies. Is it only me ? - [Blind] Check out this post! 🙄 one of the smallest, most competitive and most successful unicorns rejects you and one another Indian guy and your only explanation is racism? Are you really this stupid? Honestly, sample size of 2 and comparing it to gigantic companies?
Curious. So when can you conclude that it is actually because of racism, as per your yardstick?
When hundreds are reporting discrimination and employees start leaking racist policies.
You have no evidence. Stop trying to cause problems because your ego got bruised. Accept your rejection and learn from it. That's what adults do who have emotional intelligence.
I don't know what to Learn. no feedback whatsoever 🙄.
You’re at Google, you should know that interviewers are NOT supposed to give feedback to candidates. Same as most other tech companies.
Shut up
One of my Indian friend just joined Airbnb. He was too good.
curious : what other places he got offers from ?
Why do you want to go to Airbnb when you have Google, Facebook AND LinkedIn? You deserve to get rejected for being this naive. Like... Is there anything remotely interesting about Airbnb?
$$$
Okay
I guess you can do a simple search for Software engineers at Airbnb and see how many indians are there. To me it seemed pretty normal.
Hmm. fair. checked my second degree contacts ( 2nd degree = biased for my circles ) - Airbnb - 24/100 - Google - 28/50 Not sure how to interpret these numbers. but things don't seem as bad as I was imagining .
And that you need this to be pointed out shows you are not as good as you think.
@OP “We can either resist discussing this and stay politically correct or 'prove' that my accusation is false.” What the fuck? So a company is racist until proven otherwise?! If a company can’t prove that they are NOT racist, then that means they ARE racist?
My point is that the perception exists. That has to be addressed somehow. If Ieft unaddressed it might result in people not even applying to the company
The perception is only with you, your friend who applied with you, and your other friend who told you that Airbnb doesn’t hire Indians. That’s it. How would the perception of THREE people result in the entire industry boycotting Airbnb because of perceived discriminatory hiring practices?
Typical Indian thinking and inflated egos..you’re the racist as you blame stuff that doesn’t go the way you want on race
Quite possible. Airbnb rejection came out as a surprise and I can't seem to find any reason. That said, your generalization about 'typical Indian thinking' is no less racist than my accusation.
OP, are you a master student or transferred through Google/any other company?
I heard Airbnb is doing the needful. ;)
🤞
Maybe you should get good
I'm a rockstar dude 😛
Obviously not as much as you thought
