I keep noticing posts from people asking more questions and concerns about this company. Shoot your questions away EDIT: I have a few of you asking me about H1B via pm. I’d not suggest anyone on a Work visa to join Netflix. Unless you have a great track record of being consistently successful in your previous roles in last 2-3years and were a star performer it’s unlikely you’ll survive at Netflix. The threat and stress of losing a job is real.
Why did you leave Netflix? What’s the real skinny?
Please see comment below.
How is the review process?
Netflix has a process called 360. It’s yearly once, every one of your peers and manager will give you feedback based on your work and other things. Managers are also graded by the same among other things.
Cool. What type of rewards are offered for year end review?
How much u made at netflix and yoe ?
Apple vs Netflix work culture?
Netflix even though it’s cut throat and unforgiving. Apple culture is corrosive, siloed and management style is top to bottom.
Sounds like Evan copied that from Apple
How many hours per day did you put in?
Have you ever had a fear for your employment? Close to get fired?
Yes. People being let go and summary dismissals were quite common. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to leave.
Is the Netflix culture deck true? Do they actually follow what they preach?
Yes. Everything is true to words except sports team analogy. I’ve seen people being let go basically for simple mistakes and disagreeing with their managers. Managers have the utmost right and say who to hire and fire. HR is almost nonexistent.
Are these _mistakes_ in terms of job performance or other more serious disciplinary related issues? Other Netflix posts seem to indicate they don’t do summary firing for job performance issues and that it typically includes the managers trying to work with the engineers to help them improve before letting go?
Ever got bored because of repetitive tasks or just not challenging job?
No. If you’re the kind doing repetitive tasks, consider you’re close to being fired. I worked on some pretty interesting problems and fielded one of the major outages.
What did you argue about the most with coworkers and how did it ago? Any hard feeling?

What next?
Where do you work now? Why did you move?
I work at Apple now, though leaving shortly to a smaller startup away from Bay. Left mostly because I liked my previous manager before Netflix. Also partly due to culture.
What about the culture didn’t you like?
