Microsoft Green Card process
IS PERM CURRENTLY PAUSED AT Microsoft DUE TO OFFICE CLOSURES ? Can they start the process without an H1-B ? Let's say you're on OPT and on an F1 student visa? (I know we need to have enough time on OPT). Can we obtain the green card without an H1b if we have no plans to travel ? Do they wait for a certain time before they start your process ? What if you're a new hire with an H1b ? Do they start the process immediately if you're a new hire with h1b ? Do they do your green card once you have H1-B ? Can they start the process without an H1-B ? Let's say you're on OPT ? (I know we need to have enough time on OPT). Can we obtain the green card without an H1b if we have no plans to travel ? How responsive are the lawyers when you send out an email to them ? How soon do they respond back ? Is there any current delay in processing in any of the steps due to COVID ? NOTE: I am not born in India nor China

Legal will reach out to you but that doesn’t mean process will be started. A friend of mine process is paused for some time. Legal might argue that given your experience, perm likely will not pass. If that’s their assessment, they will not continue the process until later. In my case, I had more than 6 months internship experience and that’s why they can start my process , but my friend did not and they haven’t started the PERM yet. This friend is there for 8 months now.

I got my H-1 last year at Microsoft and these people have still not filled my GC. No LMT has happened as well.
Responsiveness of lawyers depends on the lawyer. For h1b process you might be assigned an external firm.
Perm is not paused You will likely encounter a little wait eg couple of months before the perm process like filling questionnaires begin regardless of your visa type Delays-you should search this and be knowledgeable yourself. Eg. AoS surge, timeline changes for currency etc
They start the process as soon as you join irrespective on what visa you’re on.
