I am on PIP since last week. Too stressed out. I am E5 and was previously at Google. I have been at FB 11 months. I can return to G in 1 month (1 year return policy) or try to survive at FB. I want to survive at FB as I fear going back to Google means I am not good enough elsewhere. I got too comfortable at G... I was at Google 6 years (joined as new grad).. any advice on what to do?
If you’re on PIP you’re already decided to be let go. The company needs to just cover their ass so you can’t come back and say the firing was unfair. They’re documenting now to build your case and let you go. Start interviewing aggressively now. You’ll get a better offer if you still have a job while you’re interviewing and don’t tell any of the new companies you’re on PIP
There are plenty of examples of people coming back from PIPs at FB
Not true at FB. Many people (40% I guess) survive PIPs.
You were good enough for 6 years at Google and you were good enough to pass the FB interview. Maybe your current role/team just isn’t a good fit for you.
Or maybe leetcode is not the correct measure of dev quality.
Dude, I was trying to be supportive.
TC?
FFS
Lmao
You worked at Google for six years and possiblely a T5 right? It means you are good. FB and google have different styles it doesn’t mean you are BAD. Just go back to G. Good luck!
You probably have a BAD manager than being a BAD swe yourself!
Is it not uncommon to get put on PIP in <= 1 year at FB? Starting to have second thoughts about joining as a new grad
Depends on level. New grad E3 is eazy peazy. E5 is demanding.
Yeah at other companies you can breeze at senior. At fb you are constantly calibrated to others so an e5 has to be performing so each half. That being said it’s easy to be an e3. Wouldn’t sweat it
why you can't deliver at facebook
Maybe bad chemistry with manager.
Hack culture .. I am finding it incredibly difficult to adopt. People think for 10 mins and code and if it breaks our infra, we go and fix in prod.
And I thought Amazon was F’d up
Amazon is fucked up. If you have any doubts, check our forum and see how many pivot posts are there.
Yeah that’s the point... it’s not just Amazon
Go back to Google. A lot of people do, since they don’t like it at FB, hacky culture etc.
I work with an ex-FB, holy shit, how do they like to hack things up.
Interview at other companies.
