Hey guys, I am curious how easy it is to change the team at Apple. Is there some conditions? Do I need to meet a new team personally or there is an internal portal with vacancies? Any information is highly appreciated!
Not easy at all. You are treated just like an external candidate. You have to do one or two phone screens and then whole day onsite. Also before your onsite, you have to tell your manager about this. There is no salary increment as it is a lateral move. You must also need to consider the fact that when you apply internally your resume might get rejected.
Not easy as other companies. They treat you as an external candidate and you compete against them. Also it highly depends on your current manager when you start new role. They can technically make it difficult for you. Worst is you need to let your current manager know first before you move for formal interviews to another team. And after all this awkwardness with manager and you do take new role. Salary stays the same. And also you will need to build your credibility in new team from 0.
Be ready to get screwed if you fail to move to different group before review. Mostly you’ll get piped out.
Go to cooljobs.apple.com and email the recruiter and/or manager for the roles you like. There is an interview process similar to external candidates. I found the process easy. The claims of being PIPed out seem unlikely.
I changed team last year. You can ask new hiring manager or recruiter to have some informal discussion to understand if you are having correct skills for the role then you can also ask one technical round with out informing your current Manager. But if you go with full onsite rounds you have to inform your current manager
In our org, it gets you directly to the on-site stage of the process. But on-site is just like any other applicant.
open positions often are taken by internal candidates. it means internal candidates have some advantages.
They say it’s easy but I don’t think it’s easy as they say. You have inform your current manager before interviewing internally with any group, that might be red alert to your manager that you don’t want to be on team. It depends on your manager too. But I’m so scared as I am on my H1B so just in case if some thing bad happens I will be out of status. If you don’t have status issues you can try I think otherwise try to get out of Apple so you can get salary bump which Apple won’t do, it’s lateral move only
