Curious on hearing the take of those who went through with this? What were your reasons? Does it make you feel better? Did you have to take time off work? How much did it cost? What was your health like? I know my company has perks for this, and I'm considering it next year so needed to hear out other people. The experiences you see online when you Google search are all happy stories hence hard to believe. Single at 34, recently broke up, career doing well and don't see a partner on the horizon. TC 320k
How about sperm freezing ?
For women? How does that work?
I mean what choice do you really have at this point, I would go forward with it
OT, but if you’re considering a later pregnancy... Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility - super helpful in terms of understanding your body and how to address various hormonal issues related to conception
Thanks for the recommendation, hadn't heard of this before
Is this what you did? My sister is thinking of doing fertility treatment, she is 39.
What age is considered higher risk? My understanding is that 37 and below is all fine.
Over 35 is considered geriatric in the medical community. All the risks are exponentially higher. At 40 there’s a good chance that no matter what you do, you will never have a child. That said, my wife is very pregnant with a healthy child at age 42 and she got pregnant our second month of trying, so you never know.
Was that your first child?
Am a single guy so can’t speak to it, but I read this article some time ago, a good cautionary tale: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/13/health/eggs-freezing-storage-safety.html
Talk to an OB-GYN asap, not Blind. At 35 your fertility declines exponentially every year and while google might share success stories, people don’t talk about the failures. If you want a child you should be getting as much sperm pumped into you as you can while you’re still fertile, not looking into egg freezing which is a last resort and not a guarantee. You probably hit The Wall with your looks so be realistic about what you can get in a long term partner, the sooner the better, and realize you probably aren’t going to land a man who makes more than you... not saying that’s impossible but it’s less likely by the day.
Man who makes more than me is the last of my concerns :) I just had a relationship end. So dating is out of the question till I emotionally recover. :(
Try to recover as fast as you can if children are what you want. I know that’s not easy. Get therapy. Money not being a concern is a goood start, really widens your dating pool. My wife made twice as much as me when we met, she had an open mind though.
My wife did it because we want a lot of kids and the age of the embryo stays the same while frozen. Company pays for it. Health is fine. She took a week off for the retrieval and a day off for each transfer. The retrieval is the worst part. Your body won't understand wtf happened so it starts filling up with fluid and this is very painful and lasts a couple of days. The more eggs they collect, the more painful it is.
Is embryo freezing different from egg freezing in terms of health implications and success rate? How old was she when she did the procedure?
Yes embryo freezing is different. As you don't have a male partner now you don't have option of embryo freezing
Don't do it the world needs the opposite of more people.
I don't think most of us procreate to save human kind anyway
Ack, I do lots of selfish shit too.
Sorry to hear about the break up OP
