Reminder: don't join Meta if you need a PERM

Not sure if recruiters are being upfront about this. The Meta PERM issue hasn't been resolved (despite the settlement) and likely won't be for at least another year. Please don't join Meta and then get surprised. As an immigrant, stability >>>>>> $$$.

Goldman Sachs RockStar17 Apr 20, 2022

What's the problem if we join and get stuck?

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

If you're past 6 years on a H1B and your PD is current, you won't get another extension and you'll have to leave the country. If you don't have a PD yet, you won't get one for at least a year. 1 year equates 5-6 years additional wait time for backlogged countries. Not getting a I-140 ensures you won't get an extension if you're close to the 6 year mark on your H1B. If you're in neither of those buckets, you're still affected because your PERM wont get approved for atleast another two years since Meta won't even start new PERM application until July this year.

Goldman Sachs RockStar17 Apr 20, 2022

I have priority date but obviously once I join Meta would need them to file PERM again

Rivian tankturn Apr 20, 2022

This is only an issue for those who are near their 6-yr h1b limit

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

Also for people looking to get a PD locked. Also for people who are not from backlogged countries countries who would get a GC right away if they didn't move to Meta.

LinkedIn notagoodbf Apr 20, 2022

Thanks for the update. It is strange that if your pd is current and your perm is not processed then you have to leave the country

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

Per USCIS rules, you don't get an extension post 6 years if your PD is current if your company hasn't filed a 485.

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

I didn't know about it either and am being transferred to Canada to wait it out.

Meta meta-grr Apr 20, 2022

Wish someone told this to me 3 months ago, where to go from meta?

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

That's why I'm posting this. So other people are aware. Most other companies pay more than Meta due to the stock crash.

Meta wawaweewah Apr 21, 2022

sky's the limit, go wherever you want

Apple Batman!! Apr 20, 2022

Meta should do everyone a favor and not hire H1B’s until they have the issue resolved. I have my interview coming up and have been preparing for months now. I didn’t give too much thought about PERM issue before, but now I think I should not even try for Meta.

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

It's not worth it especially with so many other companies that have equally impactful work, pay similarly, where this problem does not exist.

Aetna datjllsr Apr 20, 2022

I still have 3.5 yrs of h1 left. Yet to start 140 process. Joining soon at meta. Should it be okay ?

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

You'll probably be okay.

Twitter aatgBhush Aug 10, 2022

Hi, why will it be okay? Doesn’t gc process take 2-2.5yrs from start to end?

Oracle 762;hd Apr 20, 2022

What if I need lots of 💰

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

There's lots of other companies without this problem that pay lots of $$$$.

Microsoft vwmy! Apr 20, 2022

I think people with PD > 2016 should be fine

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

Probably but then why would you chose Meta knowing this is an issue when there's so many other companies that have equally impactful work that pay similarly.

Microsoft vwmy! Apr 20, 2022

Which ones. G interview is shit. Startups don't have any benefits apart from pay, culture is bad, tooling is ridiculous and can layoff any day. Worked for one. MS is horse shit

BMC NJ006 Apr 20, 2022

I send mail to Meta recruiter asking abt perm and the reply says “Meta has completed making the necessary updates as part of our settlement agreement with DOL and have begun preparatory steps for new PERM applications.” Can anybody pls let me know is this information correct?

Meta metamate™ Apr 20, 2022

It's irrelevant whether Meta has completed the necessary updates or not. It's still stuck.

Meta SCiS15 OP Apr 20, 2022

Yup. It's still stuck with no timeline on when it'll restart

Meta CatEatCat Apr 20, 2022

Yeah, I just joined and found out about this. My recruiter blatantly lied to me and said there are no more PERM issues, it's been settled. What's worse is that I took Meta's offer, though the TC was much less than my top offer, so I'm really pissed off. Seriously considering jumping ship. It's not as bad as your situation OP. Sorry to hear about how bad it is for you. Thanks for raising awareness!

Meta wawaweewah Apr 21, 2022

ugh that's fucked, hope you are able to switch company right away

Microsoft vwmy! Apr 21, 2022

Wtf, we're you not on blind before?
