Not sure if recruiters are being upfront about this. The Meta PERM issue hasn't been resolved (despite the settlement) and likely won't be for at least another year. Please don't join Meta and then get surprised. As an immigrant, stability >>>>>> $$$.
This is only an issue for those who are near their 6-yr h1b limit
Also for people looking to get a PD locked. Also for people who are not from backlogged countries countries who would get a GC right away if they didn't move to Meta.
Thanks for the update. It is strange that if your pd is current and your perm is not processed then you have to leave the country
Wish someone told this to me 3 months ago, where to go from meta?
Meta should do everyone a favor and not hire H1B’s until they have the issue resolved. I have my interview coming up and have been preparing for months now. I didn’t give too much thought about PERM issue before, but now I think I should not even try for Meta.
It's not worth it especially with so many other companies that have equally impactful work, pay similarly, where this problem does not exist.
I still have 3.5 yrs of h1 left. Yet to start 140 process. Joining soon at meta. Should it be okay ?
What if I need lots of 💰
There's lots of other companies without this problem that pay lots of $$$$.
I think people with PD > 2016 should be fine
Probably but then why would you chose Meta knowing this is an issue when there's so many other companies that have equally impactful work that pay similarly.
Which ones. G interview is shit. Startups don't have any benefits apart from pay, culture is bad, tooling is ridiculous and can layoff any day. Worked for one. MS is horse shit
I send mail to Meta recruiter asking abt perm and the reply says “Meta has completed making the necessary updates as part of our settlement agreement with DOL and have begun preparatory steps for new PERM applications.” Can anybody pls let me know is this information correct?
Yeah, I just joined and found out about this. My recruiter blatantly lied to me and said there are no more PERM issues, it's been settled. What's worse is that I took Meta's offer, though the TC was much less than my top offer, so I'm really pissed off. Seriously considering jumping ship. It's not as bad as your situation OP. Sorry to hear about how bad it is for you. Thanks for raising awareness!

What's the problem if we join and get stuck?
If you're past 6 years on a H1B and your PD is current, you won't get another extension and you'll have to leave the country. If you don't have a PD yet, you won't get one for at least a year. 1 year equates 5-6 years additional wait time for backlogged countries. Not getting a I-140 ensures you won't get an extension if you're close to the 6 year mark on your H1B. If you're in neither of those buckets, you're still affected because your PERM wont get approved for atleast another two years since Meta won't even start new PERM application until July this year.
I have priority date but obviously once I join Meta would need them to file PERM again
