TripActions, the distruptor of corpoate travel, Andreesen Horowitz backed Silicon Valley unicorn just let 350 people go across all departments. Is it a sign of the times? sure. But it is also a sign of a lack buisness leadship. our founders spent money like crazy. super bowl tickets, warriors front row seats, first class seats. all the while saying to estaff and beyond to buy what they wanted, not bother with quotes or competitive bids just buy it! marketing has every tool at their disposal with alot of overlap marketo, hubspot, eloqua, adobe and so much more. we have every single app that you could think of and no one ever stopped you from buying something. that might sound great but it is bad buisness and someone should have known better. it might have saved some jobs if we didnt burn through cash like there was an infinite supply of it. While i wasnt hit during the layoff im out of here. watching this happen was painful. To Ariel and Ilan. You never embraced your own core values. Be Humble. You bragged about the company being a 4B dollar company and chose not to listen to those of us that had more experience. covid-19 may have started the fire but you provided the kindiling.
How many engineering? Sad
cant say because some of them were quasi employees. team from Kazan that developed for us for example.
Who?
It was one of the worst lay offs I’ve ever seen. They had over a hundred people join a zoom and the news was delivered. No personal connection or 1:1 dialogue. EMBARRASSING. People were so confused at what was going on. Others were crying - meanwhile everyone could see since it was on zoom. Couldn’t agreee more with this sentiment around Ariel and Ilan. As someone who has been here a few years - their behavior was grotesque.
Really sad and worst time ever that being said there’s no good time to lay-off
Seriously? This is one of the worst things I've ever heard.
I was laid off due to covid 19 very recently on a Saturday over phone! Agreed they are following social distancing but this is a very bad way to layoff. They should support employees in their highs and lows as well
Travel is dead beyond belief.... 350 is just the beginning. Be prepared for some more in a couple of weeks
TripWhatever is not a representative of IT
Did they offer outplacement services?
Not to the folks I spoke with
That’s shit! I run a firm specializing in IT, marketing, and finance job search strategy. Lmk if I can be a resource
Tell me about Israeli managers please? I'm probably gonna work under one.
I worked with 3 Israeli managers/CEO. I totally agree that they don't care about anything, super stingy and would always brag that they served in military which makes them know it all.
Used them once for an interview. Someone sent me some other guy’s itinerary with identifying information by mistake.
I had the same experience 😀
That's how you reduce the competition Mossad style
2020 is going to be a bad year for business travel so what they do makes business sense. Of course it also says a lot about company’s culture. I am sorry to say it but TripActions is not a great company and that became clear to me while I was still interviewing with them. They treat their employees, including developers, as a commodity. I am glad I did not accept their offer.
Worse than a commodity. one of our founders was in the Israeli military and would make references on how employees dont have a choice they have to do what their commander tells them to. It was bizarre. I wanted to finish out at least a year but it looks as though that won’t matter.
Lol as someone who knows people in the israeli military I can tell you your founder is just crazy and not everyone is like that ^
