Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
Serious question: I read that these companies that are registered and doing business in america are like 99% indian. How is this not a violation of EEOC laws ? Why is DOL/DHS not suing them ? I only hear stories of individuals suing them, why isnt the state taking any action? Are they exempt from EEOC laws? https://m.economictimes.com/tech/ites/diversity-under-lens-as-it-faces-fresh-suits-in-us/amp_articleshow/73113003.cms?__twitter_impression=true #h1b
That is not a legal definition, these companies have a role and purpose which is to lower IT costs, but they don’t have to be staffed entirely by folks from one country.
EEOC like most labor law is reactive and not proactive. So they can do whatever they want until someone complains.
There are so many of them ... And a majority of people go through these companies. I don't think people are actually pointing out the real problems though. Racial bias is one thing ... But other problems like promotions, handing over management of the employees etc are all those area affected by racial discrimination.
What you hear is exaggeration... Reality is often much more complicated. There are gaping loopholes in our laws too, which our leaders don't bother enough to fix and which are taken advantage by them. So they arent doing anything illegal, for most parts.
Then should the companies run billboard signs about not caring for discrimination and racism (which they fake care for)?
Well i don't think they actively stop non Indians from joining their open positions... It's just that most non Indian people don't prefer to join them due to low sal and lack of benefits or growth. I am sure they would be happy if others join them too so they can boast about their diversity
Bcoz of Indian Govt who lobbies 24x7 for them. They know they cant provide good jobs to Indians in India, so they beg US to keep allowing the flow of cheap labor there. Tech CEOs love their cheap labor too who dont complain and slog 16hours. So its a win win for all except US workers
What surprises/shocks me more is that if any normal person would Wilson the authority, they would just give him a stupid answer or put that person in trouble for asking the right questions.
Yes, but it is also illegal and gross violation of EEOC laws. There are plenty of Americans also who can do low level programming jobs (after some training), $60 k is still higher than the American median pay. These companies can hire Americans yet they prefer to hire workers from 1000s if miles away .
True
Yeah I wonder the same thing lol
If 99% of the applicants are Indian, then of course 99% of the workforce will be Indian. Of course, there could still be discrimination going on, and maybe these companies have subtle ways of discouraging non-Indians from joining. I wouldn't know. That's for the courts to figure out. The point is - it's not as simple as just pointing to them and saying there are too many Indians. Otherwise every tech company would be in big legal troubles for lack of diversity too.
The question here is why is DOL not suing them? This seems to be an open and shut case and an easy win. No other company is America is 100 % Indian, the IT dept may be dominated by Indians but usually the rest of the company will make up for it.
They are just glorified sweatshops for cheap Indian labor
