So I got an offer from #facebook last week. Can't figure out how good it is. To be clear, I'm well aware that this is all good shit / 1%er problems at the meta level. For context, I'm an L7 PM @ Google with 220 base, 275 equity and about 60 bonus /yr. FB offered 240 base, 300 equity and 60 target bonus /yr at the M2 / GPM level. It's moderately better (45/yr). Think I can negotiate or push for more, or is this pretty good for an M2? How good are refreshers for "exceeds expectations" type folks?
How many years of experience do you have? Did you graduate from top school?
10+ years of PM, BS+MS in CS from top 10 school.
So thats 555/yr at G vs 600/yr at F. 45 more but youll be starting over with building a rep, relationships, learning F culture and technology. Id stay at G for that increase but thats just me.
Agree
There is room. Got a counter from G?
At your level, I do not see the benefit. After tax maybe itβs $20K more? Iβd push harder.
Exceeds or greatly exceeds will multi bonus and refreshers a lot so you have a lot of upside with good performance. No idea how hard it is at that level to get these ratings.
That upside is what I'm looking for. It's been tough to get significantly better refreshes at G lately, at least for me. Hence looking for a change.
You can ask your recruiter for what the multiplier values are if they will share it. I don't want to leak them. Its certainly harder at higher levels to get higher perf ratings obviously. But if you're crushing your expectations these multipliers will increase your comp if you can attain greatly exceeds eval once in awhile.
its not worth it
OP is that equity per year or over 4 yrs?
Per year
It doesn't look that much better than google and there is a big ramp up of having to achieve as ic7, which may not happen right away (I would be surprised if you did). On the other hand, You are comparing a steady state at google vs a first year at facebook. In terms of refreshers that might make a huge difference. Assuming refreshers of half you initial grant, you are looking at ~750k a year in RSUs on your 4th year (assuming everything stays equal).
Thank you - this is the calculus I'm trying to do. It's steady state at G vs a baseline at the same point with potential for refreshers at a higher rate. Are refreshers generous at fb for senior ppl? To be fair, I may have plateaued at G, which is part of why I want to move. There's just not very many good, open seats at 7+ in the company. It's been easier to find one at fb Side note, are you saying to get a meets expectations type rating is hard at m2 (not ic7)? I'm sure it takes hard work but seems pretty reasonable all things being equal.
Well I don't really know for PMs to be honest, that's why I put a reasonable estimate compared with your initial offer. What I'm saying about the level is that it's a level where most of the impact relates to intereactions with other people rather than solo work. It's natural that you won't be able to meet those expectations immediatelly when you come in. Depending on the org, you might even get a below meets expectations in the first half, and thats expected. I've known a director that didn't really start his role until 8 months in. His duty for those 8 months was to meet people and to watch whats going on.
Given that it's only 45k more per yeAr, I don't think it's worth the transition and fb generally have worth wlb.
$60 bonus per year? Is that a gift card?
Gift card with FarmVille coins
I lol'd
