Compass has a lot of upper level management from Amazon - red flag to join?

Trying to escape the hellhole that is Amazon and the toxic management culture. Barely out of the dev plan now. Im considering interviewing with compass but I feel like I'm setting myself up for failure if it's just top down amazon management all over again.

Yup. Red flag. Not kidding.

What was your experience?

Same toxic management culture top down even if the culture is not representing entire company culture. I strongly recommend avoid working under Ex-Amazonian manager.

I don’t know of anyone who has gone to Expedia from Compass so I think this person is just talking shit. In general, the toxic elements of Amazon culture have been kept in check. There might be some Game of Thrones going on at the VP level but the vast majority of people will not be affected by this. Less than 1% of engineering is fired on an annual basis for performance reasons (I think we could justifiably raise this to 2-3%). The CEO Robert is very much his own man and he understands people. Even if he brings in leadership from Amazon, he will not hesitate to give them the boot if they don’t align with his values. Not that his values are perfect...but the company has historically treated people way better than Amazon, which is one reason why so many Amazon ICs find their way here as well.

Thanks for elaborating.

Second this. Been here for a years and I’ve never heard any engineer is piped or fired at Compass. People are nice and culture is good.

Can you describe your experience at Compass?

Compass hword Jan 31, 2021

Can you be kind to the Amazon peers at Compass? I never find a hard time working with them and actually they’re pretty solid
