SpaceX Horror Stories III

I decided to speak up about SpaceX!! I will start posting the horror stories I had while working for SpaceX a few years ago. I will tell one story at each post. I worked on Starlink, layout team. Story number three: Young leaders with no leading experience. Boxing match!! After the horrible interaction I had with my manager. I was very disappointed and insecure. Didn’t know if I should quit or keep on. I was assigned to a major project in the Starlink org. I was working with 3 other designers to complete this major project. The lead designer was the most toxic and bad person I have worked with. When we are behind schedule he used to blame it on me and the other 2 designers even though we are working 12 hours 7 days a week. He always was delivering the impression that he is the only one working and I and the other 2 designers are doing bad. He never helped us unless he has to. He used to write for us CAPITAL LETTERS when he is mad in a group chat has over 20 people. Toxic to the most extreme level. The other two designers were new hires. They were young and they didn’t know what to do. They were always scared to say anything. I watched one of them who set next to me having panic attacks and start crying every now and then especially after 1:1 with manager. This poor guy was just relocated to California from Minnesota to work for SpaceX. He was not able to survive all the stress and bad culture. I was very sad about him to the level I forgot my own problems with SpaceX and started taking him for lunch every now snd then. Eventually, he trusted me enough to tell me horrible stories he had with our manager and the toxic guy who were leading the antenna design.I started to encourage him and told him he can reach for my help anytime. By now I am into the company for over 2 months. I understand the system. I now know that the deal is as the following: I would have to work an average of 12 hours a day. Work weekend and make everybody know that I am doing so. Not speak to my manager about my personal life. Not speak or say hi to my toxic coworker unless if it is work related. And you got to be toxic to survive or you would destroyed. It is like you are in a boxing match as the only person with no hands, you might dodge some hits but eventually you would be KOed! Just a matter of time. The deal now is take it or leave it! But do everyone have the courage to leave it?!! The courage usually take time to be built. This time usually a year or two.
