Hi, I recently(4 months back) joined google India(non gcp) after 5 YOE as L4. I feel like I'm regretting my decision, in all 4 months I'm just fixing bugs and all, not learning a thing, in my previous company I used to work on frameworks and all that actually added to my learning. One of my friend who joined as L5(7 months) is also feeling the same, he is saying it's shitty work in his team. Is my and my friend's case the only one or other people who have joined G India recently are feeling same thing about the work? Asking totally on work related perspective. YOE 5 TC ~52 (29 + 4.5 + 18(Front loaded)) #tech #google #googleindia
I am not sure of the work at the team but I would say stick it out for an year. With time, you will get more responsibilities. Even after 1 year, if you think you are not learning anything new, explore other opportunities within Google.
Thing is I recently had my preparation spree and concepts are fresh, it'll be easier to make a switch. For my friend who is L5(gcp) says there is no roadmap for the team and it's a shitshow there, he said he feels like his entire team was just hired to fix the bugs of already released product.
OP We're you the one who posted on Linked In.. from Gmail.com to Google.com :)
Nope, not a LinkedIn creep.
π
Check what the folks who are in the team for a while are doing OP. If they are doing the same shit, means it's a sinking ship. If only you are doing it, maybe you are being ramped up.
Asked them, quite a lot of them are new joined within 1.5 year from now and said this has been going on for a while, said it's mostly maintenance and hardly any development work.
I assure you this is not the norm at all. Try to see whether it's because you are ramping up. Change teams if everybody in the team is doing the same. There are teams with great work but most of them have poor WLB.
How quickly one can change teams internally at Google?
Seems like whomever new I've talked to are doing maintenance work, I'll keep looking for teams though but I can't change before a year.
Yes regretting, I joined at L3 after 5 ye of exp thinking there will be a lot to learn but there is no meaningful work π
Which org did you join? Thatβll probably help out those who are going through team matching now. Iβm in Payments, and it is definitely not maintenance work here, but core dev of Google Pay.
And it thought my work is only bar
Which team are you in OP? What kind of work do you do?
Op I would advice you to switch company because once you become senior, real expierence matters. At that time, you will just have maintenance work at your end. Some people I know has left Google for better opportunity and learning Don't ever compromise in learning and growth. Switch to other company immediately or you will rot there and will require re-skilling BTW 29 base include pf or without pf?
With pf, where did they left for google, your friends?
Yeah , they moved to msft and other gone for Ms in USA. Actually they were lowballed in Google, plus work wise it was same state as yours. Only bug fixes and maintenance thing He held for 1 year then left it . Seems like most of org projects in Google is in same matured state. That's why they are hiring 6-7 year exp guys on L3 as they would be asked to do bug fix and do maintenance
Yeah that's true. Same for me at LinkedIn. It comes with companies having good wlb. How much USD you've allocated for 4 years in stocks component?
70k USD
