Attentive offer evaluation
Meta hiring freeze is currently in place for these positions - E3/E4 Software Engineers - E3-E5 ML/DS Engineers. For E5, they are preferring more than 5 years of experience. Meta is still hiring for E5+ Software and other roles. Meta has a record number of people accepted the offer recently and joining in next 2 months which has already filled all the Head-counts for E3/E4. One of the big difference that you will see with Meta vs some other places is Meta has a strict upper limit on E3/E4 which they force to keep it at around 1/3rd of the SWE total count. This is completely different than places like Amazon where people with less than 5 years of experience accounts for 75%. Meta still has to hire many more engineers. The blind and Media negativity against Meta has still not impacted the hiring. It is possible that all the hiring for this year will get completed in next 3 months. If you are on Systems side (like Amazon System Dev Engineer), you should apply to Production Engineering. It is not like an SRE and the pay is same as Software Engineer.
If I apply for E5, can I still get downleveled or would I simply get rejected
Depends. They are putting some scrutiny at E5 to prefer E5 with 6+ YOE.
Can you please clarify this? What do you mean by scrutiny? I had my onsite yesterday for E5 and I have less than 5 yoe? I think I’ll get 3 hire and 1 strong hire(and 1 strong hire from phone screen) Do you think I have a shot?
How come my E5 phone screen was canceled? 🫤
Probably e4/e5 pipeline
Do you have less than 6 YOE? They are also putting some restrictions on E5 hiring.
So the headcount isn't done for the year as some people said, it's just until the ratios even out a bit more? Also only 1/3 for e3/e4 combined or 1/3 each for e3 and e4? The former would be kind of crazy
It's combined. E5 is the most common title at Meta.
Curious about the first question
No kidding everyone accepted, new hires RSU base will be at like $200/share. Probably a bunch of people jumping ship from fintech companies where their RSUs became worthless
Can you dive a little deeper into why fintech rsus are worthless? Going through multiple rounds in fintech but wanna do my due diligence
Well depends when you are hired. If your rsus are based at $100/share on your hire date and the stock is down to $10 you lost 90% of what you expected to make. Original grant is usually a dollar amount divided by share price at hire date
For the E5 experience is that total years in industry or years at level?
Total
So I got a E5 SWE Infrastructure verbal offer from a very genuinely sounding recruiter... Chances are it will hold up? Just nervous based on people posting scary stuff on blind..
Any interviews that were already completed will not be impacted.
Phew. Thanks!
Does Meta use Workday or ServiceNow?
Workday.
I qualified screening and have an on-site for (E5/ML) in few weeks. I have prior work experience of 7.5 years. Will my hire be impacted by this freeze?
How do you know about the preference of 5+ years of experience for E5? I know a lot of people (including myself) who’ve applied before 5 years of experience?
That is what is posted internally.
What's the YOE expectation for other levels? (6, 7, 8?)
Gotcha, what about DS?
Same as ML.
I’m still getting recruited for Analytics/Product DS and I’m L5 at highest. Are you sure about this? Or do you mean Core/Research DS?
