I’ve been interviewing for a Product Designer position at Facebook. I had my Past Work and App Crit interview on Thursday (11/7). My recruiter just let me know that they want me to redo my Past Work part of my interview. Any thoughts on why this would happen? Any tips on redoing it?
Had this happen to me, was switched recruiters halfway through the process so new recruiter gave me a more detailed run through of what they’re expecting from the past work interview. Did a better job the second time by tying things to business goals better, and made it to final round on-site. Sadly no offer, but good luck to you 🤞
Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. Sorry you weren’t able to get an offer. I’m trying to transition from a full stack UX Designer to a Product Designer, and the way those two roles discuss process and solutions is a bit different.
Yeah, the only thing I regret is that recruiter offered to listen to me give a run through of the past work presentation and I regret not taking her up on that. Maybe your recruiter might be able to listen and give you feedback before the second past work review. Might be worth a shot 🤷♂️
Make sure to actually talk about your past work. You’d be shocked at how many people don’t.
...what do they talk about?
Random stuff, why certain design principles exist, describe process, etc
I’m under a similar situation, will DM you
How did it work out for you?
Take 2 went well, this interviewer dug a little deeper as to the why I did what I did, I thought it went well, I also showed a different second project this time around. Hoping that helped, felt good though.

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Did they give you any feedback from the first time go around?
I have a call with my recruiter on Friday to discuss the Past Work. I knew this interview felt off. I really vibed with my App Crit designer, we had a great conversation and it felt very positive. It was like completely different for my Past Work. The designer almost didn’t seem to want to be there, and a bit disengaged.
It's good that they are at least calling you back with feedback, it means that there's potential and maybe the designers reviewing the work has something going on where they couldn't focus on it and not get all the details (shrugs) Good luck in the re-do!
