E5 to Amazon L7 - worth the jump?
Got a Principal SWE L7 offer. Is it worth the jump? It's AWS org. I love it at FB but initial stock grant is gone and didn't get DE. I am down to making barely $360k. Also have G onsite coming up. Recruiter asked my expectations and I asked $500k+. Waiting for numbers now.

Congrats!!. Principal in Amazon is a big fucking deal. Usually E5 maps to Sr.Sde(Sde3/l6). Be prepared for not only being technically brilliant but also having the right leadership tools to influence your assigned org and show measurable changes. Also ensure the AWS product you are joining you are aware of that product space in depth (technically). Also principal recruitment is handled by different team and generally they are very averse for false positives. So it is quite likely you will do well, just be prepared for risen expectations, and a more cut throat culture :)

It’s a highly respected position. You get your own wiki page with details about your career accomplishments. You’ll probably be the highest level engineer on your floor or tied as there is 1 principal per 50 engineers.
Congrats, very well done but want to give you a slight reality check that it is not as prestigious as it used to be... They are making SDE 3 and principal a lot easier to get to... But still, very very solid spot... The personal wiki is a bit of an exaggeration though.

I would be extremely surprised if principal eng from amazon would get e5.

Had a chat with recruiter and HM and made it clear, I wont move with L6. L7 or I walk.
