Seen this place advertised directly by people who work at Blind (and co-signed by the CEO himself) as well as in multiple threads requesting referrals in the past week. https://www.rooftopslushie.com/topics/referral
I think it more speaks to the referral system. There are a lot of companies out there that won’t look at resumes without a referral. That just straight up sounds like nepotism to me.
Eh. There’s x number of resumes and not enough people to feasibly screen all of them. It’s a datapoint. Maybe a small one, but it’s still a pinch of information that we don’t have on the other candidates.
It really doesn’t take long to look at resumes. If your going to spend six figures a year on a new hire the least you could do is spend a few hours looking at thousands of resumes...
Morality is abstract and this can be examined in as many ways as the are people here. That said: fuck no it’s not immoral. Are you kidding? You still have to pass the interviews right? Is studying for interviews to give to an advantage inherently immoral? Your resume gets you the interview and your interview gets you the job. A referral means very little if you’re not qualified. It’s a company. It is here to profit off of you. It will pay you a rate it deems to be reasonable and then cut you then you’re unneeded.. and you’re worried that you took an extra step to get yourself noticed?
If you are questioning paying for a referral on some abstract term... wait till you find out how business is done

The real world is far different than you might expect if you haven’t been exposed... no one really cares for any other humanbeing unless it is a bloodline. To get people to listen you have to pay up. Construction contracts, govt deals, oil and gas, railroad, shipping yards, real estate everything going on around us someone had to pay their way in. The shiny office everyone walks into everyday is no exception
It isn’t morally wrong, but I’m not sure you’ll get much out of it.
