Work is shit. Wlb may be even worse.
It depends on the customer and your individual /team goals. Personally , I rarely go above 45h/week. I’m TT.
Thank you. This holds true also for Enterprise service managers? Thanks
ESMs are under a lot of pressure to reach bookings goals. Depending on your assigned accounts/area you may or may not be lucky and have customers willing to spend money on ProServe.
I’m a data scientist at aws. Sometimes I work 10hr of actual work/ week and sometimes I work 60hrs/week. Depends on the customer and where the project is in its life cycle
Half of the comments on Blind about AWS are useless. As a proserve it really depends contracts on. But you'll mostly find yourself looking for work until a pro serve engagement happens. It also depends on the client expectations on the project. They always say as well, learn how to say no at Amazon or else you'll find yourself overstretched. My friends in that role are having fun either way
it depends on the contract, the customer, how well your manager shields you from asks, and if you have the back bone to decline work. ive been pulling almost 80hrs a week (im not exaggerating) to hurry up and finish this dumpster fire of a project. other team mates spend 40-55hrs per week. it depends if im not promoted in a year, im going to leave. i dont like it here
It seems that everybody ghosts hours.... sadly
i have an awful customer and no support from the managers on the contract my hours have been well over 60hrs per week for the last 1.5 months. ive worked every weekend + july 4th. we have so few hours remaining on the budget that ive been under billing to keep the customer happy the managers dont have their shit together and they dont scope work properly and overpromise to the customer dont work here. im leaving after i pass my certs
also i was hired as a data scientist but have only done OPs and infrastructure work. no ML or analytics at all. they place you where they need bodies since there is a ton of work and not enough employees to do the work they also dont reign in toxic clients. they dont care to
Are you in Germany office ? Der die das..
If you’re looking for WLB, don’t join Amazon/AWS at the first place.
Is it much worse than tech consulting / big 4?
Well, I’ve heard that Accenture has a so-so WLB, and people tend to leave the company within a year or two, but Amazon is much worse in terms of WLB, plus continuous stress and fear of being piped-and you get a very pathetic existence, not a life. So if you can, find another opportunity at a different FANG or Big Tech, there are many great companies out there. Amazon isnt one of them
