Facebook got embroiled in fake news. Everyone seems to now believe Facebook is evil. Did it affect morale of people working there? Did it cause attrition?
Facebook treats its employees extremely well even if the product may be used for a lot of fake news. So no one would leave just because the product is misused. People leave if they are not treated well
Actually this is one of the reasons I left fb. Not the fake news thing specifically, but the fact that fb bares such a moral responsibility and is not really doing well with that.
Whoa I didn’t know anybody would go from FB to Amazon. Fascinating
Right... collecting everyones shit and selling it to advertising companies and providing a backdoor to the government isn't evil. Zuck has you drinking the Israeli cocktail over there!
Can you clarify what you mean when you say FB sells your information? What do you think happens?
You work there - why don't you tell us? Tell us what happens with the data that is collected after someone LEAVES facebook.com, and what you do with said data. Oh, you cant. Because you signed an NDA - but at least you are happy at facebook making 6 figures right?!
Since we actually work there, we know that news (fake and otherwise) is not why 99% of people come to Facebook. We still connect families and let them share memories. Maybe people who work on news partnerships have low morale but the rest of us don't care. What affects morale is when employees act like selfish assholes on our internal forums and we are actively working on stopping that.
So you’re working on suppressing the noise? 😊 and ignoring your colleagues that care. Brilliant.
Caring is fine. What is not fine is posting aggressive opinions every week on our social groups and then reporting everyone who disagrees with you to HR.
It was decent in the old days before it became just another advertising engine / PII gatherer
Compared to the shit we’ve done its nothing. Keep doin watchu doin
Morale is great. It's an important and impactful problem to solve and the company is focused on it. My personal frustration is that sometimes the narrative in the media is sensational and not nuanced enough. I should also say that Facebook's approach is different than Amazon, people treat with each other with respect and empathy. I have seen alot of people cry in elevators when I was there at Amazon, sadly I didn't say anything to help. You just get used to it
No kidding? I'm looking at an offer from Amazon. It's not THAT bad, is it?
Prepare for slavery
look at the stock price, do you think people in Facebook have low morale?
This is nothing compared to early days when Zuck's im's mocking users were released and when the Winklevii lawsuit was happening.
Spend some time reading the articles about Amazon and how a lot don’t reflect reality. It was the same about my past employers. Now realize how the same applies to other companies. Moral is great in my org. Going to take 7 figs to poach me.

Of course bad press affects work people do there but thats ok because this is a serious problem and discussion we need to have. However, i think people generally believe that fb and what we build/work on is not evil, but evil things happen on fb and thats a problem we need to solve. Fb has had to solve many big problems before and this is one of them. If we dont solve it, it doesnt mean social network in the world will disappear but there will be someone who solves it and wins the game. We generally think fb is necessary in the world and its a good thing. Just a lot of problems to solve
TL;DR: Fb solves a lot of problems.
