This is really getting worst day by day. Many north Indians and Andra people speak in Hindi in team space and lunch during a non Hindi speaking INDIAN presence BUT mostly avoid during the presence of a non Indian. This is a double standard. They don't care a shit when a non Hindi speaking Indian presence, they keep talking in Hindi even though they know I don't understand Hindi ( even after fucking I told them several times). This is across all companies, groups and teams. I worked in a dozen of companies in USA. Same everywhere. These Hindi speakers even talk to me directly in Hindi again and again even after telling them I don't understand a shit in Hindi being a Tamilian. Why don't you fucking talk in Hindi to an American? Why you think you have a previleged to talk in Hindi in the presence of non Hindi speaking Indian but not in the presence of non Indian? Understand these first. 1. About 95% Tamilians, don't fucking understand Hindi. 2. These 95% of Tamilians don't hate Hindi. They simply don't understand and never got a chance to learn. It's like a Mandarin to them. 3. Who knows Hindi in Tamil Nadu? Only those who studied in CBSC which is about 2%, mulism tamilians which about 3% ( not all Muslim in TN) and Bramins which is about 0.5% (again not all bramins in TN) and 0.1% who learned on special interest or by other means. 4. Again I or most tamilians don't hate Hindi. We never got a chance to learn. We Don't fucking understand it. You fucking understand that. 5. Tamilian don't hate North Indians. We simply get irritated when you speak Hindi even after knowing we don't understand a shit in Hindi. So, treat Tamilians and other non Hindi speaking Indians with the same way you treat a non Indian. I admit even tamilians speak in Tamil in front of North indian. It's same fucking ridiculous double standard. Regardless North or South, most Indians have this double standard. But tamilians are worst affected in this because they're minority in most teams
Speaking any language in presence of coworkers that does not speak the language is plain rude
In my opinion, Tamilians are the worst offenders. They mostly only interact with other Tamilians, form groups, only hire other Tamilians and in general have that air of superiority that everything Tamil is the best. OP complaining about Hindi is funny, because Tamilians do the exact same thing. It just depends on where the majority of the folks are from.
It's so stupid to claim tamilians are the worst offenders. There are assholes in every community. Don't be stupid. Prove it. Do you have proof? Statistics? It's so you start attacking a community as whole. Read my post fully I have admitted Tamilian also speak Tamil in front of North Indian when tamilians are majority in the group.
FYI, my wife is a North Indian having Hindi as her native language. I don't understand a shit in Hindi though. So I have no reason to attact North Indians specifically. The fact is the majority and those who have power are the ones always the cause of most wrongdoings to the minority. In USA in work place who speaks regional language of India without respecting others sitting next? Obviously the most are Hindi speakers, next Telugu speakers and may be tamilians could be the third.
You ask for proof, but make an assertion yourself that Hindi speakers are the most, then Telugu and then Tamil. What proof you have of that? Like most jingoistic Tamilians you seem to get fired up when challenged. What proof do you have of your original claim? Tamilians never adapt or even attempt to assimilate with the place where they live, be it US, Sri Lanka, Bangalore or any such place with pockets of Tamil ghettos. Iam sorry but your original post and concern is just laughable coming from a Tamilian, while your folk just perpetuate the same thing. Iam done with this stupid thread, over and out.
Speak in English. Problem solved. (Iām Indian) US only has one official language - English.
I have a solution, just learn Hindi and fkcing be a part of the group.
Do you know my shit taste sweet? Eat my shit, I'll learn Hindi.
Also ask Tim Cook to learn Hindi. I don't know the taste of his shit. You eat his shit and make him learn Hindi. Tim is waiting for you.
I guess thatās how your mom taught you to learn your mother tongue.
Learn Hindi? Problem solved. āConsider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have in trying to change others.ā ā Jacob M. Braude
So, you ask me to learn Hindi by spending years for your convenience? Again will you ask Americans to learn Hindi? How dare you to ask a tamilian to learn Hindi but not an American? Listen I don't hate Hindi but I can't spend time to learn it. Even if I learn Hindi, what about other team members who don't know Hindi? This is stupid rudeness many north Indian has towards tamilian. Oh are you tamilian, why don't you learn Hindi.same rude questions. Will you ask that to a Chinese? Will you ask that to a Americans?
Without understanding history of India fully, these North Indian ask Tamilians to learn Hindi. So rude. Just because of Tamil Nadu in Indian, they expect all tamilian to learn Hindi. Don't even understand it's unfair to do so.
If you can create a medicine which will make me to speak Hindi like magic, I would love to take that medicine not just for Hindi but all languages in the world. But I'm not going to fucking spend years of my time in learning any language. I already wasted years in learning English bcoz of British, I'm not going to waste my time to learn Hindi. You have no right to ask "why don't you learn Hindi". Mind it.
Fuck the low life scums who form groups and talk in their own languages in the presence of others. In the workplace, English should be the only acceptable language to converse in. PS: I'm an immigrant myself and English wasn't my first language growing up but I always make it a point to converse in English at the workplace.
As a caucasian American, this shit is hilarious and so strange to me. Minority groups ripping each other apart because theyāre in different subsets of the minority. Maybe I should start getting pissed at people from the southern USA? Let me clue you in... youāre all just Indians to most of your coworkers.
Yes, hilarious. most Indians are divided between themselves by language and caste, and fight within themselves. Racism is extreme within Indians. In fact indians racist to same level as whites. Though most Indians dark skinned, slightly bright skinned Indians think they're superior class. How do you think tiny country British was able screw India? Indians are divided by language and caste, so British was able screw them easily.
i'm from the south but don't live there now and i get mad at people from the south all the time. plus people don't understand me half the time.
Agreed.. this is stupid at best. There are bigger problems to solve than to complain so much.
Oh! Wow. Here is the saver of the world. Do you have urgent meeting in UN and WHO? How many bigger world issue you solved? LOL
If it gets to you so much then change team, company, state, country etc. No point being so frustrated and not able to change a thing about it.
Are you really stupid or what? Both north Indians and south Indians are foreigners to USA. Americans are asking us to go back already. Now you think you have rights to speak Hindi at work place in USA and you are asking a non Hindi speaker to move out USA? Did you tell the same to your fellow American colleagues? This is not North India. As far as I know, in most software companies in USA, the official language is English not Hindi
I hate anyone speaking in any language other than English at work. It sounds so pathetic and bring bad name to our country of origin (India). But surprised at this complaint from a tamilian. They do it in front of everyone, speaking loudly in Tamil. It sounds so embarrassing. My Russian colleague asked me the other day if itās normal for Indians to do that. Well he does not know difference between a Tamil and nontamil. He thought all Indians are like this. And I am not a North Indian
Can you tell the difference without understanding the language?
Reply back to them in Tamil š
