software engs with doctors as spouses, do you ever feel less than them or inadequate?
Do you look down at “lesser” professions?
Uber bro alert
Only if you are an insecure lil bitch. Man the fuck up. There's no 'superior' and 'inferior' professions.
Do you please her in bed? Nuff said
She’s curing people for illness and you are helping people have a better commute experience. Two different professions but a similar purpose (help improve the human life). When it comes to money, if you become a director one day, you’ll probably start earning more. Then would you expect your spouse to think the same of you? Forget about these thoughts and have a nice time together 🙂 PS: I envy you. Somehow I always wanted to have a doctor as my spouse.
Why? Means you’ll rarely see each oth... Ah I see what you did there.
Don’t look up or down on your spouse profession. In the end it’s all one money plus there is no free meal, be happy you are making good salary as an engineer, it takes years and years to become doctor , then weird work hours and sometimes not a fun job. I would happily take a good techie 9-5 250k job rather than looking into sick patient for 400k , cherish what you have and respect other professions
Senior SWE at Uber should be making way more than the average doctor. Sure there are exceptions - surgeons, some specialties - but for the most part it should be way more.
I’m in the same boat. Uber Senior swe + Surgeon. No inferiority. Money wise, swes make more with less responsibility. Tech life is better than doctors in benefits. The combination is killer. MD is countercyclical to the market. So one has job security and other swings for the fences. At dinner, you never talk about work or hearing about their work puts your bug fix or outage in context. Occasionally, you play trophy husband at dinner parties and nod and smile. Or she comes to your tech parties and has unique or interesting stories about crazy stuff in her work.
Sounds like a sweet life! Good for you man!
@codemonkas. Not going to lie.. it really is. It was rough in the beginning when she was in residency and fellowship making practically minimum wage. But now things are great. She’s in private practice so her job security is stable. Her income is predictable and covers our expenses. Which allows me to go out and do startups to swing for the fences or take on a stable big tech job for her to change things around. Basically, we both give each other enough cover that if we don’t like something about our work, we can peace out and change it. Freedom and flexibility does wonders in how you approach the BS at work.
Have her write you a Xanax prescription
What part of the world are you from? Could be a cultural thing, I couldn't care less what the wife does as long as she's passionate about it. I would be more uneasy with a stay at home wife than a rocket scientist (visa/gc issues aside).
from a fucked up land, reflected in the question!

Why?
Med always seemed more prestigious and difficult, and makes 2x what I make
Enjoy the money and be a trophy spouse.
