Currently, I have a text-based resume. Wondering whether to change it to a Visual resume or not. Will visual resume work for a software engineer? Has anyone successfully used one to get an interview call?
You mean like this? https://pjreddie.com/static/Redmon%20Resume.pdf I would only advise this if you are a rockstar researcher or engineer that is well known within the community. For example, the guy with the linked resume built a state-of-the-art real-time object detection framework on his own deep learning platform.
Depends if you work in an area that is visual. For example, do you work in graphics or computer vision? Have you written papers on the subject?
Consider whether you demonstrate at least basic formatting and layout. Show you can create a reasonable document and have written capabilities. Beyond that consider whether there are skills or attributes you’d like to portray through the look of your resume. I have a visual resume and it has served me well. I’ve also had some great, minimally visual, resumes cross my desk that helped catch my eye.
Keep it text but play around with visual hierarchy of fonts for better legibility. Simple and minimal.
What's a visual resume?
