Any support services or advocacy groups in the Seattle area for women in tech?
I’m not sure what you mean by support service, but there are a number of networking groups, geek dinners and meet industry leader type of events. Facebook and amazon often organize them. I would encourage to seek other networking groups in addition to this, based on your area of interest and expertise as well as future career aspirations + , what I found really helpful, is networking with lawyers-I learned a lot of negotiation tactics, psychology of workplace dynamics...things of that sort
Yeah, I don’t know many advocacy groups :( you could start one though! If you’re dealing with a specific issue, advocacy isn’t going to change that in the short term, talk to a lawyer.
You could send out an email to Systers or ghc mailing lists to ask about the support groups.
Talk to a lawyer. All the women who can really support you are under NDAs and can’t talk. The lawyers are the only ones who know the truth about how bad things really are because everyone is silenced.
Remember corporate HR groups are there to protect the company. Like they said if this is a real situation stop being a victim and report it and get a lawyer if you are retaliated against. If you just feel like life as a women at work is unfair then start your own circle and share hugs, stories, light candles and go back to work feeling refreshed. I know that that is what we guys do when your not around.
After reading this comment, it’s hard to understand why women in tech would need a support group.
