Have you experienced sexism or sexual harassment? Have you ever complained to HR about it and, if yes, what has been your experience. Please share your story.
Yeah as a kid. No HR dept to complain to. Won’t go into the sordid details but suffice to say in this time period it would be deemed sexual abuse.
Yes and it went badly. I’ve been harassed since then a few time and won’t report it. I just leave.
Yes. Yes. And no matter how much HR and others tell you to trust them, don’t. They may or may not help you, but it won’t be because they’re your friend. It’ll only be because helping you aligns with a business goal.
Yes. Be careful with HR unless you've got strong documentation, witnesses, and some pretty egregious behavior to report. In my experience, you're better off going through your management chain when needed. And if things are bad, document them with date, time, and who was there to witness it.
Yes. HR (local and national) were absolutely useless in the face of a heavily-supported harassment complaint. (Texts, emails, recorded conference calls, etc.) In fact, the HR involvement protected my harasser, worsening things for me. The sad fact is, you may need to go beyond HR to Legal in order to draw appropriate corrective action. That proved fruitful for me.
I am in this situation right now. I am looking for ways to highlight what is happening but know hr is not going to do anything. I am planning to post my managers name on glassdoor along with experience. Yes I am the only woman in my team and he will know who I am but cannot let him get away

HR isn't your friend. They are there to protect the company's interest. Make a blog post like Susan.
Thank you, snip. Very useful info.
