I’ll soon be interviewing for NYC-based Google Cloud Technical Account Manager. I have 10 years of technical consulting and 10 years of product management. I thought a TAM role might be more fun to work primarily with customers again. I didn’t stop to think I might be leaving money on the table by not pursuing a Product Manager role. Does anyone know if these roles at Google pay the same, hypothetically - if I were to interview for both and perform equally well? That would suggest experience, not job function, sets the range. Paysa doesn’t list a TAM role at all, while depicting a Sr PM at $180k base, $36k bonus, and $94k equity. Curious, assuming acceptable job performance, is equity offered every year, e.g. does this equate to $94k granted annually, with each grant carrying a standard vesting schedule? Thanks for any input!

Pm is in eng org, that's where you want to be.
U won't be happy w tam and it would be pretty hard to move from there to anything close to PM
The PM org is getting downsized in the Cloud product area. TAMs are the ones that will be more preferred.

I'm a TAM. Try for PM. The pay will be different for sure and stocks are very different . Plus PMs are so much more respected and PM is a better career opportunity.
What’s your background (education and experience)? What’s your total compensation (base, bonus, stock)?
I think TAM will be way less than PM in terms of money, responsibility, career growth etc.
