Are there teams at Microsoft that work on Linux stack? I am specifically interested in Azure technology stack. Is it all C#/ASP.net or do they use open source stuffs?
The Containers (Kube, AKS etc) team, the LIS team and many more do. Most of my team have macs, but we are in the field and do most dev on there, or under WSL on Windows.
Yes there are plenty of teams that use Linux inside MS. Starting from those who work on containers (AKS, ACI), the people from the former Deis team, etc. I use a Mac too as my work machine and I spend more time working with Linux and other non-MS technologies.
Stuffs. Found the true Indian.
Please never use any of the following: Stuffs, codes
Please do the needful for him 😀
Like others said above there are many teams who develop for Linux. The compute team has a AzLinux and LIS (Linux integration services) arms that prepare Linux stack to deploy in Azure. There are container based teams like AKS. Then there are multiple Azure Data teams which are deploying and running internal and OSS products on Linux like SQL, Hadoop, Spark etc. My team exclusively builds only for Linux from past 3-4 years and nothing for windows anymore. Engineers in my team code in Java/Python/Scala. Ignore the grammar/racist police that don’t answer the question. Technically you may just want to use OSS but last s should be software.
I run linux on my primary work machine, but I work in hardware. Our target is Linux so I can easily justify running it.
All the data science teams use Linux
MSR teams use Linux
I'm a dev on the .NET team (specifically runtime) and we use and develop for Linux (and OSX for that matter) extensively. As far as Linux-based VMs - I don't think they're that actively used internally.
