Getting an offer around this much. Is this a decent salary to live in Chicago downtown comfortably? No dependents. No bonus. The role is that of a data Scientist. (Have around 4 years of experience as an analyst) Moving from a small city in the Midwest area where salaries aren't really that much.
It depends on the role. Can you share a bit more info?

Nope. Chicago has, IMO, the most architecturally beautiful downtown ever. However, the employers in that area are low balling pricks. If 95k is your TC, it's a VERY bad offer. You should definitely negotiate. Do you have dependents? What's the role? Do you get RSU, bonuses etc?
95k is doable. I have a family member who pulls it off at 75k. You will have to budget though, cut back on resturants (very costly there) and wont save much. Lol@tech workers who think you need 150k+ to be 'comfortable'. Most of america makes 60k work. Not every city is sf/seattle housing prices. Chi is huge and has affordable living options in the city.
Most of America makes 60k because they have shitty or no degrees. I've seen people getting bachelors degree in arts or auctioneering or some shit like that. Now if you bust your ass to get an engineering/medical degree, don't you think they deserve more than the average Joe? PS: I'm not trying to sound condescending.
Absolutely, you're correct. That is an unrelated topic, though. The shit degrees are more like 35 to 45k though. My fam member has a business degree. Only in tech/law/medicine do you start above 100k. Teachers, nurse, finance etc are all good degrees, but only 60 to 70k.
You're not gonna be comfortable. It gets cold and windy there
Exactly, I'd spend $95k trying to keep warm
IKR. How about living in the summer?
A lot of garbage in this thread. That is plenty to get a nice 1BR wherever you want and have plenty left over for social life. You can have an expensive social life, or a cheap social life and save as well, up to you
1 bed apartment in a luxury building downtown will cost $2500/month. That’s about 1/3 of your take home pay. I’d call that affordable
That's roughly a paycheck so it's 1/2 your take home pay. You can see this with a paycheck calculator.
That’s what I pay in Portland, OR for a 2 bedroom/2 bath. I thought portland would be more expensive.
You’ll have a good time and fall in love with the place. (From experience)
It's comfortable, Chicago is really affordable. My 1bedroom monthly rent is 1400/month, I live in one of those neighborhoods north of the loop and just take the L train to work every day. 30min door to door commute.
You can make it in Seattle with $95k, I bet you can do it in Chicago without any sweat

What is the appeal to NVIDIA?
No. Downtown Chicago is expensive. You need to have at least 110K to be comfortable
