Why do you want to be a PM?
Tell me a product that failed to you lately and how you would fix it
Youâve promised your stakeholders that youâre going to do something without having consulted your engineers and the features have been made public, but your engineers are now telling you that itâs ridiculous or close to impossible. How would you deal with this situation?
Is that really considered a hard question? That feels dead simple to answer correctly. Also, you can easily dodge it with "I'd never make a commitment without consulting with engineers on feasibility because they are also a key stakeholder." Even if you pretend you did something that dumb it's still an easy question.
Thatâs what makes it a hard q. Thereâs no right or single answer. Youâve already gotten into the situation, so your answer might not be acceptable. If youâre interviewing with a stakeholder, you might be construed to be an engineerâs mouthpiece. Why have you at all if all youâre saying is what they say?
Your manager asks you to do some work that requires technical insights what do you do: 1. Get right to it and do a thorough research. 2. Ask an engineer who I trust what to do. 3. Laugh out loud about the notion that I need to do something technical, my manager will laugh too and we'll both grab a drink and talk about how we'll convince an engineer to do the work, and once its done we'll take credit for his work and present it as ours. Correct answer: (3).
Youâve created a new product and your pilot teams have adopted it as well as the most influential team in the company. Thatâs only faction of the total potential userbase. How do you convince the rest of the company to use your product?
