How to get into Public Relations
How do you get into public relations at Dell, Google, Facebook or Apple in Austin? I already work at Dell. What kind of resume/background is needed?
What is your department now?
I'm a project manager in a photo studio. Scheduling photo shoots, making sure our CGI images get put onto the website. Passing along edits to our vendors and clients
Journalism experience required? Or are they interested in that? I'm in news but want to get out
Depends on the skillset for a particular job. For example, media relations would be tough without some background and relationships with journalists. Is digital and social housed in PR at Dell. That may be an easier transition from what you are currently doing.
You will need to work on your moral flexibility. I believe the Austin BAR Association has some local classes.
The best comms people I know learned from the best in agencies before going in-house. You get exponentially more exposure working for multiple clients. The best clients I know were awesome agency people.
