Non competes are definitely enforceable in MA. That's why they have been trying to reform the law. Even without a lawsuit, a competitor will often be reluctant to interview someone from a competing company.
Yeah, that doesn't ring true from the stories I've heard. There's a reason big companies fought hard to fight non-compete reform last year (and they won).

Amazon rarely enforces non-competes. I wouldn't worry unless you were an L7+ or you blatantly stole proprietary info and are using it at your current employer, etc
