We all hear successful people who graduated from top notch or Ivy League universities. In reality, have you known anyone who graduated from those schools but failed or did so so or poorly in their careers? Please share.
The way you’re mythologizing Ivy League schools is comical and bordering on weird. Yeah, plenty of people. About 30-40% of my graduating class (Princeton). Underemployed, painfully average, made mistakes, got burned out etc. just like the rest of them. Going to a good school is no guarantee of success. Get real.
Of course. I graduated with a computer science degree from one a number of years ago. I knew everyone in my program in my graduating class. Most are doing great for themselves, but there are a handful who have totally failed to make it, it’s readily apparent at reunions.
CMU here, and yes I’ve seen firsthand many who don’t make it. But those that do survive the cs program seem very well off
Huh? There are lots who failed. Not sure how top school = guaranteed success.
How is it not guaranteed success? I’m graduating from a mediocre state school and my career is far from assured - I have to start at fucking Amazon
@IsStupid your lack of confidence in yourself is frightening to observe. Are you sure your state school is the ONLY reason you’re not somewhere else? Is everyone at Facebook/Google/wherever you think is better from Ivies?
The concentration of world changers coming out of top notch schools/Ivy League universities is obviously higher than your state universities, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a large group of people that graduate and take traditional jobs and go on to lead happy but not world changing lives.
at least they’re happy and respected which is more than I can say for myself
The world changers are part of an exclusive club with the right network and connections, inherited from their parents. The number of non-legacy, unconnected people is probably on par with other schools in general.
I’ve been in top or best schools all my life. No matter how good the schools is, there are always (relatively) slackers. Not to mention post-graduation.
Have interviewed and rejected my fair share of people from Princeton (at my last job) to not put it or any school on a pedestal. You realize it’s probably harder to get into FAANG than Ivies right? It’s just that the general media and culture obsess over colleges.
Yes, lots. In fact, most if them. I wouldn't say any of them failed, they just didn't achieve any more than their public college counterparts.
Lol at their failure being my success Fuck my life, what’s even the point if I can’t buy a Tesla
Teslas are alright, I guess
Current student here: I sure do go to school with a lot of dipshits, even in the CS department
Yes, I know many. You just don't hear from them.
