Google hit me up for a SysAdmin role. Had my phone interview and they are flying me out the week after next for an on-site interview. And No it’s not an SRE role. Sounds like for their internal corporate stuff. I’m not expecting comp to be like a Software Engineer or SRE, but does anyone know what the money looks like? It would be nice to have some figures in my head going into this if I get an offer. Cost of living seems crazy out that way and right now I make 100k base 10k bonus no stock at my current company. But I’m in eastern Connecticut where a decent house on a couple acres of land is 250-350k. So COL is much Lower than the million dollar homes I’m seeing out there.
If you have a good life in Connecticut, I suggest stay away from Bay Area. Google is an amazing company but Bay Area doesn’t worth it. Especially if you have a family and kids, you need double income to be comfortable.
That’s what I’m starting to see. If I could work out of their Boston office that would be absolutely perfect. As it’s not to far for me. I might have to put that bug in their ear for the future if something comes up there.
You could ask them the salary range for the position
If you and your wife are not making over $200K total forget about it. You either have to pay at least $3-4K for a mehh home and I'd you try to buy it be ready to pay close to $2M for a house built around 1950s in an average neighborhood.
Agree w above. Plan on $2M homes now. Not $1M.
How was it ?
Grats on the onsite. Did your recruiter give you a TC range?
Thanks! And no I didn’t get any sort of range from the recruiter. :-/
Don't be afraid to ask! Unless you're worried they'll ask what you want, and you'll low ball yourself... Definitely been there before if so.
