While some CEOs have been vocal in their commitment to paying workers fairly, American women can’t wait for trickle-down change. https://www.aauw.org/research/the-simple-truth-about-the-gender-pay-gap/
Simply stating that women make only x% as compared to men means NOTHING. You need to prove that it is due to discrimination but that part is ALWAYS intentionally dropped.
Equality means equal opportunity not equal pay. If you make the same statistics between races, religions, sexual orientations, or any other differentiator you will find that the pay between many of these groups is far from being equal. This by itself doesn't signify a problem, unless there is a solid evidence that attributes this gap to discrimination against that particular group.
Thank you for posting this @hoda! ✊🏽
Aw, @mp3 you’re slipping. You haven’t mansplained to us all about this post yet! 😉
Important question: How does the wage gap affect spending power?
How is that related?
Maybe if they worked as hard. People who actually believe in wage discrimination truly don't understand what the free market is all about. I would hire a turtle if he could do the job.
Do we know women engineers work as hard?
@sigkill99 and @ricewater they probably work harder because they have to to prove themselves in basically every aspect of their career.
I thought we couldn’t assume gender anymore... I’m so confused!!
How many women do a good job negotiating comp? I recall there was a damning statistic that showed almost no women negotiate their comp, but I could be wrong. Edit: Please don’t throw me in hell, I want an honest discussion regarding this.
The fact that you assume women aren’t good at negotiating is part of the problem.
Slow down champ. I made no assumptions in my post. I was referencing a statistic I recall seeing and was wondering if others had seen it as well. It’d be a solid reason for the gap in pay for the same level. Try not to assume people are bashing you at every turn, it might increase your happiness.
