I'm a senior at college and I have two job offers, one from quora and one from Facebook, both in data science. I interned at Facebook last summer in DS. I'm unsure which to take. I think the Facebook brand goes far but apparently Quora has a good reputation in the valley. Also I think I'd learn way more at Quora and have more diverse and interesting projects. Does anyone know about culture at Quora or anyone on the DS or engineering team? Would it be easier to move from Quora to FB or vice versa? Comp is about the same. Quora is actually higher but a lot of it is illiquid stock option. Quora also has a rotational ML engineering program which sounds interesting.
Surprised that it would be Quora.
You will get a lot of product and business perspective at FB. It is fast paced though and may not include doing any Machine Learning (if that’s you interested in).
Does quora even make money? Most likely it wont have a great exit so i would pick fb
Quora has ads now. But quality died years ago.
70% of Quora user base is non US, it will be an uphill battle for them to make money but yes MS will acquire them at some point
Do you mind me asking how much your offer was? I was in a similar boat a year ago, and am wondering how the comp has changed. As for which company to choose, i would think more long term. If you’re good enough to get a fb offer, youll probably be able to get it again in the future. I though the quora interview was harder, which is a testament to the kind of people i would be working with
Isn’t it analyst
My job won't be in core DS
