How much do you guys make as software developer in LA area? What are ballpark salaries as noob, 5yr exp, 10yr exp, and 20yr exp? Do people even stay that long for the software developer career?
I got three offers for the equivalent of E4 at FB (second level from bottom). One start-up, two big companies. Bases were 135, 140, 145. TC was under 200 at two places but over for one of them. I am a decent but not superstar engineer with a strong algorithms background from a top university.
My Tc was around $220k when I left LA... (6 yrs exp)
From my experience in LA (entry level), salaries are relatively low for the high COL, especially on the west side (where most of the tech is but prices are very high). Most of the *high* end base salaries would be 100-130k for an entry level swe (e.g. Hulu, Snap, Riot Games, etc.) but it's not uncommon for those numbers to be 75-100k for the majority of decent companies in the area. Of course, for folks with more experience (5+ yrs), I've seen offers well over 200 and up to 300k. But rarely past half a mil like in the bay.
