I’m a contractor at SAP. My assignment is for a year & isn’t over until about November. Any advice from anyone who’s done contract work and looked for a job prior to the contract ending? Will I be able to find a job internally if I try to leave early or will I have to just find work outside of this company? Also, I could wait it out but the health insurance fees are outrageous, it’s halting my home buying goals, & the job is extremely boring.
My experience as a contractor (though not at SAP) is that you'll have difficulty finding another contract position internally. I'm currently searching for a position internally when my contract is expiring, and managers from other teams have tended to ask me about my contract end date because they want to make sure they're not inconveniencing my current team by taking me on at a certain date. I expect anyone on a different team at SAP would be reluctant to take you away from your current team because it may damage the relationship with your current team.
This was not my experience at msft. But id imagine Google converts less contractors in general
Dunno about sap but I'd be looking for a job internally and externally. Being a contractor sucks (most of the time)
Do you think the amount of time I’ve been in the role will have a negative impact on my job search? I’ve only been in the role for 4 months
Not likely. I'd just say the role isn't challenging and you're looking for a better opportunity to learn.
