Company selection

Friends, time as come! After 3 years in Amazon, I prepared for 2 months of leetcode and got many onsites and offers. Now it's time to decide what companies! Position is for for sfbay area for a senior developer. Companies: Square, Twitter, Facebook, Airbnb, LinkedIn and Facebook. What would be your choice, and more important why? I tend to go for Twitter: the company and team I will be working with seem awesome and I believe that I will do more than the zillion of devs at Facebook (which is second choice) Thanks!

Congrats. I strongly think anyone can’t just tell which company to join based on the above choices. It’s important to know what YOU will be doing. E.g. If you wanna be a manager, is that possible in this team. Anyone who advises you blindly is giving advice without complete information. And these are people who earn more than 250K (i.e. the top 1% in America).

Please, don't go to Twitter. From what I understand, their monetization strategy is fucked up. Facebook might have a lot of devs, but is doing really great with its advertising business (in other words, clear monetization strategy) and runs at higher scale than Twitter (which might explain the need for more devs).

I like big companies with a lot of variety in the teams and kinds of work. If I get tired of my problem space at FANG, I can easily find a team that's doing the kind of work I'm most interested in. If I get tired of my problem space at a startup, I'm stuck unless i interview and change companies. I'm also not a fresh grad, and I have a life, so wlb/stability is more important than massive impact within chaotic startup. Of the companies you've listed, I'm not sure which way I'd go. Quite possibly Facebook, though I don't like their "recklessly break shit" company motto (paraphrased haha), so it'd have to be on a team where things have to be done right without too much chaos.

Yes misery loves company

Can you describe your interview prep process? Were you always good at these problems?

Amazon nutell4 OP Jan 22, 2018

Prep process: 4 leetcode a day. Work 2 hours per day on this. Not too much otherwise your brain will try. Read three books: ctci, programming interviews exposed and another one focused on Java. Also, eat balanced, no alcohol (it messes your brain and doesn't help to remember things) and exercise, it helps you sleep, stay focused and healthy.

Cool. Were you always good at leetcode problems?

Amazon nutell4 OP Jan 22, 2018

Not at all. Pretty bad but with practice I got better. Also I failed one screen and one on-site.

Can't believe you got so many offers, I have similar experience at Amazon. Do you think it's because you are naturally (above average Amazon sde) super smart or was it because of the leetcode?

Amazon Swangin Jan 22, 2018

^ please answer op. I’m wondering if a guy with an average intelligence such as myself can do this.

Amazon nutell4 OP Jan 22, 2018

See answers above. I'm average SDE3, just a lot of practice with healthy lifestyle. Get good offers was a priority and I got better with practice. I also got offers from small startups which I didn't include there for privacy concerns.

Thats too good. BTW, How many years of experience are you having?

Cruise Automation Jan 22, 2018

Dang, that's a ridiculous number of offers. Congrats! I'd look into the culture and team and what you want out of your next job to decide.
