I am a dev and a high profile engineer from my own team keeps harassing me at work, always cruel in his responses, unfavorable towards me on major decisions, tries to promote his best friend over me, always downplays my hard work. Mostly he insults me over small things publicly. This is starting to stress me significantly. How do I handle him? He is too powerful ( he reports to VP). Looking for some sincere advice.
I had a similar run in to yours. It’s best for you to move to another team or another company.
Talk to him about it
That’s the worst action to do
Tried once. He acted like a genuine person for just that moment and went back to his “normal “ at once.
Switch teams as soon as you can.
Find a manager in another group, outside the VP's org, and confide in them. They may know a bit about if it makes sense to go to HR or if you should look elsewhere.
No point talking to him. I know this person and he has totally ruined the team.
I believe I know this same person from when I worked at exp. He has a criminal record you can look up online.
Please go and talk to his skip level. Do not stress and Expedia does take these kind of situations seriously especially VPs and senior directors. I have been through this and had all the support of my seniors.
Senior Director is sold out. Follows him blindly.
Get him to eat edibles. Let him chill the F out. Put him in an Uber towards Mexico. Natural selection will take its course.
Just change the team. Look out for the Jobs at Expedia email. Most teams have openings and are actively hiring.
You could go to HR and report him for making a hostile work environment. They are serious about that stuff, because if they don’t do anything, you can sue for damages. Another alternative is to ask to move to another team away from the guy. A third alternative is to go out and get another job offer and threaten to leave if they don’t get him to stop, but be prepared to leave. Office politics and jackasses ruin a lot of good gigs.
Report him asap.
