Product guy working in a startup with technical background. Not going to disclose the country but its in Asia and its not India. Possibly ask me about: - are we taking your jobs - tech culture in 3rd world country - compensation and lifestyle Bonus point if anyone can guess what the country is.
Which tech segment or function does your country focus on
The trend here in this country follows what’s hot 5 years ago in the US: fintech, p2p lending, and e-wallet. There are few reasons for this: first, the majority of the people do not have a bank account, so the potential to disrupt is huge; second, the infrastructure is not well developed so startups are more geared towards basic necessities of human function, instead of leisure related such as airbnb, snap, etc
why are you still working on 3rd world country technology, guy?
The competition here is a bit low that some people dont have a degree. So it is not too hard for me to land a job as long as i stay connected with people. I have had interviews with some first world companies, including amazon, but the short answer is I am not good enough.
Maybe you are being too humble! Too bad more people in the US aren’t as open as you seem to be :)
Internet connection is good if you stay in the big cities but beyond that it is not usable for working. Since tech is so hot at the moment the pay is really really good up to the point which i can double my peers salary in other industries. But apart from banking and business related, say med, the pay is shite hence the rampant corruption.
Anybody there working on crypto?
Cryptocurrency? Take my words with a grain of salt because I only understand crypto on surface level. But the answer is no. There are no demands for it, and people who can build it may be lacking, if not non-existent. Bitcoin is taking traction though, tons of orgs spawning offering service of btc buy & sell.
Pakistan Nepal srilanka
Nope
Thailand
Lol I said the same at the same time
Thailand or Malaysia
Nope
What’s your definition of 3rd countries here .. ? I feel if people just randomly guessing the names, some may feel offended.
Which would be the least total comp you would agree to move to, say, Germany or UK?
Is $50000 p.a a reasonable salary both for the company and me? Personally though comp is not my main concern - moving alone gives me the opportunity to develop my career and skills.
You can earn that much in India or Pakistan and have a dream life. In London this is slave wage
Bangladesh
Nope
